Falkland Islands Fox

The Falkland Islands Fox was an extinct species of wild dog that lived in the Falkland Islands. It was the only land mammal on the island and because of that, it was the apex predator of the island. That is, until people showed up. Charles Darwin was the first to actually study this carnivore. Darwin described the wolf as common and tame. He classified the wolf as Canis antarcticus. Today, it is considered a member of its own genus.
