Electric eel at the New England Aquarium.

The Electric Eel is a species of fish that is not really an eel. It's really a type of knifefish. Like other knifefish, the Electric Eel can generate electricity. But the other knifefish species use electricity to navigate for food and to comunicate. The Electric Eel, however, uses electricity as a weapon. They can generate enough electricity to kill a man. In fact, they are capable of producing a shock of up to 500 volts. But the Electric Eel doesn't have just one electric organ. It actually has three. They are the Main organ, the Hunter's organ, and the Sachs organ.
