The Chinese Alligator is the Asian relative of the larger, more famous American Alligator. The Chinese Alligator's habitat, unlike the American Alligator, is now reduced to a few ponds along the Yangtze River. In these ponds, there are only 200 Chinese Alligators and only 50 of them are mature. This population decrease is is mostly due to its habitat being destroyed. Another factor could be eating rats that have been poisoned. Now, most Chinese Alligators are in zoos.
